Design and construction of industrial flooring for the Dollar City distribution center in Palmira, Colombia, covering a total surface of approximately 65,801 m² (≈ 708,277 ft²). The project was designed to support high-performance logistics and warehouse operations.
The floor was executed using a large-panel construction methodology without saw-cut control joints, using a 3500 psi concrete slab with a thickness of 18 cm. The slab was reinforced with 25 kg/m³ of Dramix 4D 80/60 steel fibers combined with polypropylene microfibers (0.6 kg/m³), providing enhanced structural performance and crack control.
The surface was finished with a quartz-corundum dry-shake hardener (QUALIDUR – AR2 class) applied at 5 kg/m² to ensure high abrasion resistance. Construction joints were installed using Permaban Wave armored joints and Permaban Alpha Classic joints in dock leveler areas. The flooring system achieved flatness values of FF45 / FL35 according to ASTM E1155 standards.
The works also included polyethylene vapor barriers, concrete placement, screeding, vibration, leveling and mechanical finishing, as well as perimeter isolation joints and polyurethane sealant in all joints to guarantee durability and long-term performance.
