Design and construction of an industrial concrete floor for the Bavaria brewery facility in Palmar de Varela, Colombia, part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) group. The project covered a total area of 21,755 m² (≈ 234,169 ft²) including warehouse areas and loading/unloading docks.
The floor was executed using the RCR SILIFIBRE system, built in large panels with controlled contraction joints. The slab consisted of MR40 concrete with a thickness of 16 cm, reinforced with high-performance steel fibers. The surface was finished with a neutral quartz hardener, providing excellent resistance to abrasion and intensive forklift traffic.
The works included polyethylene vapor barrier installation, joint isolation elements, concrete placement, screeding, vibration, leveling and mechanical finishing, followed by surface polishing. Construction joints were executed with sinusoidal joints, with additional contraction saw cuts and joint sealing to ensure long-term performance.
The floor was designed to support loads of 3 tons/m² in warehouse areas with Toyota 8FBMJ35 forklifts, and up to 13 tons in loading dock zones, with a design assumption of K = 0.05 N/mm³ and traffic up to one million axle loads.
